Cluneal Seat

Cluneal neuralgia is a perineal condition with recent anatomical and pathological knowledge. This neuralgia is an inflammation of the cluneal nerve that is located in the lower part of the buttock and runs under the ischium (towards the lateral-anal region). Due to its proximity to the pudendal nerve, cluneal neuralgia and pudendal neuralgia are often mistaken. Both pudendal and cluneal neuralgia can be caused by trauma or pressure, pinching the nerve until inflammation.

A surgery in the lumbar to femur area can also damage the nerve. People suffering from cluneal neuralgia report sensations of electric shocks, intense burning, stabbing pain, or tingling, from the buttocks to mid-thigh.

Our seating cushion for cluneal nerve entrapement (CNE) acts in several ways:

• Thick cushion: Our cushion for cluneal nerve is thicker at the back than at the front. This aims to place the buttocks higher than the knees (dynamic position) to open the pelvic and reduce compression of the abdomen forward, and thus the compression of the cluneal nerve.
• Cluneal nerve cushion with bowl-shaped cut-out: Talking with people suffering from clunealgia, we found that sitting on the toilet bowl helps relieve compression of the cluneal nerve and the pain. We have created a cushion that replicates the shape of the toilet bowl and can be used anywhere (home, car, office, public transportation...)
• High Viscosity Fluid Technology: In addition to reducing pressure when sitting, the fluid pouches in our cushion absorb shocks and vibrations that can intensify pain while driving.

Our cluneal nerve cushion consists of foams and four fluid pouches. This fluid is not affected by temperature changes and can be used to relieve pain through cold therapy: remove the cover and take out the fluid pouches and place them in the freezer for a few hours before placing them back into the cushion. The fluid turns white but does not solidify; it returns to its translucent state at room temperature.

We recommend purchasing an additional set of fluid pouches along with the cushion to ensure there is always a set of pouches in place in the cushion while the other set is cooling down in the freezer. The fluid pouches can also be detached and moved to manage pressure points while sitting.
